MS Police Department continues to equip officers with more training
Monday afternoon, Mineral Springs Chief of Police Fransico Mercado reported the Mineral Springs Police Department had written one careless driving citation and three criminal citations during the month of May.
Mercado also spoke to the council about using an unused brush truck that belongs to the Mineral Springs Fire Department as an emergency response vehicle for the police department. He said the truck would be moved to the garage at city hall and used when severe weather, such as snow or ice storms to patrol the city and help move branches off streets.
Mercado reported Officer Greg Garner had completed his two-week arson investigator class and is now a certified arson and explosives investigator. He also stated that every officer in the department attended a Narcan class at the Center Point Fire Department. He said they were trained to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone. Following the completion of the class, each officer received a free Narcan kit.
