Multiple fatalities result from chain reaction accident on I-30
Multiple fatalities are expected from an accident that shut down Interstate 30 east of Caddo Valley Wednesday afternoon. State police said there was initially a two vehicle accident that occurred around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. That led to a chain reaction collision involving several vehicles, many of which were 18 wheelers. State police say a lot of details remain unknown, but it appeared anywhere from a dozen to 15 vehicles were involved. A large fire engulfed several of the vehicles. Troopers were having to go from one vehicle to another late last night looking for victims that might still have been trapped in the wreckage. Arkansas Department of Transportation employees also utilized atv’s to provide water and food for motorists who were stranded in the accident.
Weather is believed to have played a role in causing the accident, as some heavy rain and thunderstorms was moving the area at the time of the accidents.
