Murfreesboro City Council approves 4% pay raise for employees
The Murfreesboro City Council has approved a four percent pay raise for all city employees in 2021. In connection with the increase, aldermen also raised employee matching from three percent to five percent for next year. With the increase, the payroll for Murfreesboro employees next year will increase from $407,641 dollars to $442,218 dollars.
As council members voted to fill one vacant alderman’s position in Murfreesboro last night, another alderman resigned, creating an open spot to start next year. Last month, Jim O’Neal resigned his position and suggested the council appoint Cody Bachmann to begin serving in December. Bachmann was elected to O’Neal’s position last month. Monday evening, Bachmann was appointed at the start of the meeting.
Near the end of the council session last night, a question was raised about the West Ward seat currently held by Jeff Walls. He did not seek re-election last month, and no one ran for the position. By law, Walls would continue serving until he resigned. He stated last night that his intentions are to resign, effective December 31st. Someone will be appointed for the spot. City officials say at least one person has come forward, expressing an interest in the appointment.
