Murfreesboro traffic stop leads to drug arrest
On September 7th, Murfreesboro Officer Chase Kersey conducted a traffic stop on South Washington Avenue. Kersey advised the driver that he was stopped for not using his turn signal when turning off of South Court Street onto South Washington Avenue. Kersey detected the odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle. Kersey was notified by dispatch that the driver was a parolee and had a search waiver on file. The driver was identified as 41 year old Robert Shane Fugitt of Murfreesboro. Officer Kersey advised Robert that he had a search waiver and asked if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle. Fugitt handed Kersey a marijuana joint and advised of a marijuana pipe that was possibly in a bag in the back seat. Kersey had Fugitt step out of the vehicle and started a pat down for drugs or weapons. Kersey found a bag of syringes and a meth pipe. Kersey detained Fugitt and continued what was first a pat down into a search of Fugitt’s person. Kersey found a container that contained two cut straws, along with a tan bag rolled up, and inside was a clear baggy of a green leafy like substance believed to be marijuana, and a clear baggy with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Fugitt was transported and detained into the Pike County Detention Facility. Fugitt was charged with possession of methamphetamine or cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.
