Nashville Basketball Teams Advance to State

Nashville basketball teams won a pair of games Thursday evening at the 4A South Region Tournament in Crossett.  The Scrappers defeated Warren by a final of 47-44.  Nashville scored the game’s first 13 points against Warren.  By halftime, the Scrappers advantage was trimmed to seven.  Entering the final period, Nashville had an eight point lead but Warren came back to tie and take the lead for most of the quarter.  With the game tied at 44, Nashville played for one final shot.  Athletic director Bunch Nichols describes the game winning play for the Scrappers:

In the girls contest, the Scrapperettes had a slightly easier time with the Lady Jacks in their contest.   Nashville won the girls game by a final of 47 to 33.

Yesterday’s wins put both teams into the 4A State Tournament next week at Farmington. 

The regional tournament moves into the semifinal round today.  The Scrappers face Magnolia, which is the top ranked team in 4A and the 2nd ranked team overall in Arkansas high school boys basketball.  The game begins today at 5:30 followed by the Scrapperettes playing Crossett at 7:00 o’clock.  B99.5 will have the broadcast of both games this evening.

Also yesterday, the Murfreesboro Lady Rattlers defeated Springhill, 31 to 22 to advance to next week’s state tournament.

There are several games being played today in the smaller classifications of the regional basketball tournaments involving area teams. 

In the 2A boys regional at Fordyce, the Dierks Outlaws play Harmony Grove at 5:30 today in the boys bracket.  Murfreesboro will face Acorn today at 4:00 o’clock.

From the Class A Regional, Kirby will play Ouachita in a girls contest at 7:00 o’clock followed a boys contest between Kirby and Nevada.
