Nashville City Council approves “Banned Breed” of dogs ordinance
Wednesday during a Special Called Meeting, Aldermen of the Nashville City Council approved a motion to adopt an ordinance that was in regard to Prohibiting “Banned Breeds” of dogs within the city limits of Nashville.
According to the ordinance, banned breeds within the city limits pose a significant risk of injury to the citizens due to the aggressive nature of the breed and the threat to attack. It also states that the definition of Banned Breeds of dogs are any of the following: American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bulldog, and an exotic breed of dog such as Coyote Hybrids or Wolf Hybrids.
Mayor Larry Dunaway gave Joe Crofton, who is a resident on Grumble St an opportunity to speak on an encounter he had with a hybrid wolf.
Animal Control Officer Seborn Gregory informed the council that his department has been dealing with this issue since January and this is the third set of Hybrid Wolves that came in.
Gregory added that the state does have a state law on hybrid wolves.
Mayor Dunaway concluded by saying that he didn’t want to take any chance of a child getting hurt really bad or killed so he wanted to be proactive and get the situation handled right away.
