Nashville City Council approves operating budget for 2024
Aldermen of the Nashville City Council held their regular monthly meeting yesterday.
During the finance report, aldermen approved a motion to adopt a resolution that was in regard to the city of Nashville operating budget for 2024.
According to Finance Director Kimberly Green’s report total revenue for the month of November was $791,759.02. Total expenditures were $694,521.19. The revenue exceeded the expenditures by $97,237.83. Green also reported to the council that city sales tax increased 10.8 percent which was $14,018 more than November 2022. Green also added that county sales tax increased 3 percent which was $2,670 dollars more than November 2022.
Nashville Police Chief Amy Marion reported that the radios are in and that they are programmed and ready to go. Marion stated that “Shop with a Cop” went great, and they were able to take 65 kids shopping for Christmas from the Nashville School District this year. This year Marion reported the proceeds from Harvest Fest were donated by Rehab Specialist in honor of Ava Rogers. In addition, a grant was obtained from Walmart and there were several donations from the community. Officers from the Nashville Police Department, Cossatot Community College, and the Nashville Fire Department participated in the event.
Mayor Larry Dunaway mentioned the letter that was received by Tyson. The letter was to thank the city of Nashville for their support of Tyson Foods’ production facility expansion in Nashville. Dunaway said construction work is being done at several farms in the local area to prepare for Tyson’s expansion project. After further discussion, the council didn’t take any action in regard to the $12 million dollar loan. Dunaway also provided an update about the west side project.
