Nashville City Council Approves Resolution Supporting Local Business Participation in Tax Back Program

The Nashville City Council held their regular monthly meeting yesterday, with several key items on the agenda, including a resolution supporting local business investment and updates on the city’s financials.
One of the main items discussed was Resolution 2025-10, presented by Mayor Larry Dunaway, who informed the council that he had received additional clarification from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC).
Mayor Dunaway explained that Cantex would be responsible for only one percent of the cost, with the remaining portion rebated back to the company.
Following discussion, the council voted to approve the resolution, which certifies the City of Nashville’s endorsement of Cantex Arkansas, LLC to participate in the AEDC Tax Back Program, aimed at supporting business investment and job creation in the area.
In other business, Mayor Dunaway gave an update on bids received last week for the city’s upcoming water project.
The council also heard from Finance Director Kimberly Green, who reported the city’s financial performance for the month of July. Revenue totaled $923,770.14, while expenditures reached $996,852.48, resulting in a shortfall of $73,082.34.
Green also noted a decline in sales tax collections compared to the same month last year. City sales tax revenue dropped by 6%, and county sales tax collections were down 1.4% compared to July 2024.
The council is expected to continue monitoring budget trends and project developments in the months ahead.
