Nashville City Council Holds Monthly Meeting, Discusses Financial Updates and Wastewater Project
Yesterday, the Nashville City Council convened for their regular monthly meeting, with 10 aldermen in attendance and three absent.
The council reviewed the statement of revenue and expenditures for August, which reported total revenue of $795,566.77 against expenditures of $678,578.95. This resulted in a positive balance of $116,978.82. Notably, city sales tax increased by 1 percent, yielding an additional $1,716 compared to August 2023. However, the council raised concerns over a significant decrease in county sales tax, which fell by 18.6 percent, equating to $17,751 less than the previous year. Director of Finance Kimberly Green assured the council that she would investigate the cause of the decline with the state and provide an update at next month’s meeting.
Mayor Larry Dunaway then presented a letter recommending the award of a contract for improvements to the Wastewater Treatment Facility. He highlighted the need for a new clarifier, with a bid of $292,000 being proposed for the project.
Following the mayor’s presentation, a resolution was introduced to authorize the acceptance of the bid for the clarifier rehabilitation. Alderman Nick Davis made the motion, which was seconded by Donna Harwell. The motion passed unanimously.
The meeting concluded with a focus on future improvements and continued fiscal responsibility for the city of Nashville.
