Nashville City Council Supports Trauma Assistance Program for First Responders

The Nashville City Council recently discussed new mental health resources available to city employees through the Arkansas Municipal League, with a focus on supporting first responders.
KMTB and KNAS recently spoke with Mayor Larry Dunaway who explained the background of the Arkansas Municipal League’s Trauma Assistance Program and how it was established to address the emotional and psychological needs of municipal workers, particularly those in high-stress roles.
The program provides up to 12 counseling sessions per year, a benefit Dunaway said is now being offered to cities through the Municipal League.
Drawing from personal experience, Dunaway noted his past work alongside the fire department, emphasizing that he understands the challenges first responders face and why access to mental health services is essential.
City officials indicated the program will serve as an important resource for employees dealing with job-related stress and trauma.
