Nashville City Council to Consider Solar Array to help lower energy costs

The Nashville City Council is considering the possibility of adding a solar farm at the city wastewater treatment facility to help lower energy costs. Council members at Monday’s meeting heard a presentation from McKinstry, a Texas based company that has already entered into a energy efficiency contract with Howard County. The council approved moving forward with an investment grade audit to determine the scope of the project and estimated energy savings. Nashville Mayor Billy Ray Jones discussed several topics with council members at last night’s meeting.

Jones says the consideration of a solar farm would free up funding in the future for other budget line items.

Council members authorized the purchase of a used ladder truck for the fire department, which will help lower the city’s ISO fire insurance rating. The ladder truck will also protect the safety of firefighters and provide additional protection for two story structures in Nashville.

In other business during the meeting, the council voted to condemn a structure at 112 west Lockesburg Street.
