Nashville Fire Department Gets Ladder Truck

The Nashville Fire Department’s latest addition is now in service.

Earlier this year, the department acquired a ladder truck that also serves as a pumping rig. The unit was obtained from a department in North Carolina. The truck features a ladder than extends 105 feet in the air which will provide a much needed benefit to firemen during structure fires.

Nashville fire marshal Justin Thornton said this is the first time the local department has ever had a ladder truck in its fleet.

The rig was purchased at a cost of 75 thousand dollars. Thornton said the Nashville department has spent another 25 thousand dollars to equip the truck.

The addition of the ladder unit gives the local fire department four pumper units and seven total vehicles.

With the addition of the new equipment, Thornton said he is in the lengthy process required to improve the district’s I.S.O. rating which will eventually help reduce insurance premium costs for local residents.
