Nashville Man Arrested on Aggravated Assault Charge

A 59-year-old Nashville man was arrested August 14 after allegedly attempting to strike a woman with his pickup truck, according to an affidavit.

Nashville Patrol Officer Jason Icenhower was dispatched to 502 South Ansley regarding a report of someone attempting to run over another person. The alleged victim was later located behind Smith Cleaners on East Hancock Street.

According to the affidavit, the woman told officers her ex-boyfriend, Derek Wright, had twice attempted to hit her with his red 2002 Dodge Ram while she was walking on Front Street.

The affidavit states Wright allegedly yelled, “you’re gonna die today” during the first incident and, during the second alleged attempt, said, “you ain’t going to work today. You gonna die.”

Wright reportedly drove behind the Smoker Friendly Tobacco Store before leaving the area after seeing an approaching patrol car.

The affidavit states Wright is a convicted felon currently on parole. He was booked into the Howard County Detention Facility the evening of August 14 on a charge of aggravated assault.

The allegations in the affidavit are accusations, and Wright is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
