Nashville man dies in ATV accident
Authorities say a Nashville man died Saturday afternoon in an ATV accident in Pike County. The victim was identified as 48 year old James Lawrence. According to state police reports, Lawrence was the driver of a 2020 Polaris ATV that was traveling along Irene Road. Two other people, identified as 52 year old Kristie Hill of Amity and 49 year old Chad Cox of Murfreesboro, were also traveling on a 2021 Polaris ATV. Lawrence reportedly left the highway intentionally in an effort to overtake the ATV driven by Hill. As Lawrence re-entered the roadway, his ATV struck the left side of the ATV driven by Hill, causing both vehicles to overturn. State police say Lawrence was thrown from his Polaris and pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Coroner Jason McDonald. Hill and Cox were both injured and transported to Howard Memorial Hospital.
The accident happened around 5:20 Saturday afternoon and was investigated by State Trooper Michael Summitt.
