Nashville Park Commissioners Discuss Soccer League Participation, Facility Updates, and Grant Applications
Park Director Meghan Floyd told the Nashville Park commissioners that 202 children registered for the soccer league during their August meeting. She said the league was down by 50 kids, however, she thinks many of those children are registered to play flag football this year. Floyd said she was even considering extending the registration deadline for flag football by another week.
Floyd reported the skate park has been moved and they are starting to prep the former skate park pad for three pickle ball courts.
Park Commissioners approved the updated tournament rental policy. The policy states the cost to rent the baseball and softball fields for tournaments. It also clarifies what park employees will be responsible to do, as far as striping the fields.
Floyd told the commissioners that she applied for a grant to install lights on the soccer and t-ball complex. She said she will be notified in October if the park will be awarded a grant.
Floyd also mentioned that she would like to see the 8u and 10u fields updated with turf infields. Floyd said turf infields would allow the park to host travel ball tournaments. She said there are like six different baseball and softball governing bodies that would like to host tournaments in Nashville.
Nashville Mayor Larry Dunaway discussed how turf fields would benefit the City of Nashville, as well as the city park.
Floyd announced the annual Golden Gathering will be held on October 10th at 10 am. She said they will have a western theme.
