Nashville Rotary Club Hears From Nurse Practitioner

Wednesday afternoon, nurse practitioner Alana Day, spoke to the members of the Nashville Rotary Club.

Day said Nurse Practitioners combine clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating health conditions with added emphasis on disease prevention and health management.

According to Day there are currently more than 270,000 nurse practitioners in the United States and the average nurse practitioner has been in practice over about 10 years. She said most nurse practitioners help fill the gap in rural areas that lack primary physician care.

Day said nurse practitioners work in clinics, emergency rooms, specialty practices, rural health departments, hospitals and urgent care clinics. She said a major part of a nurse practitioners role is to provide healthcare to rural areas.
