Conway man arrested on drug charges in Pike County

A Conway County resident has been arrested this month on drug related charges in Pike County. 38 year old Dennis Bates, Jr,. of the Hattieville community, was discovered sleeping in his vehicle in the parking lot of a Glenwood business. Sheriff’s Deputy George Donaldson visited with Bates, who told the deputy he was waiting on a friend to meet him. Deputy Donaldson was given consent to conduct a search, and a small baggie with a crystal like substance, believed to be cocaine, was found in one of Bates’ pockets, according to authorities. After placing Bates into custody, reports say the deputy searched the vehicle, and found suspected marijuana behind the driver’s seat. Bates was transported to the Pike County Jail, and was formally charged Monday with a felony count of possessing a controlled substance. He also is charged with a misdemeanor of the same count.
