Nashville School Board

The Nashville School District presented its annual report to the public Monday night before the Board meeting.

Upon convening Superintendent, Doug Graham, presented to the board a bid for new band instruments. Graham said discussion with Nashville High School Band Director, Cody Ford, led to indicate the need for new instruments. On the bid received by Cooper Band Instrument out of Russellville was 2 new concert Tubas and a Bass Clarinet. Graham made the recommendation to follow through with these purchases with the sentiment that in order for the band program to grow it must be invested into. The board voted with none opposing – approving this $21,000 expenditure.

Also on the agenda for last night was the conversation of the mask mandate. Graham presented data to the board specific to the School District. This data showed the district to be a higher risk category concerning cases per student total. He went on to give examples of nearby districts who either redacted their mask mandate or started without one and how many of them have been forced to implement one on the fly.

It was his recommendation to continue with the mask mandate with the understanding that at any time if favorable data was presented the topic could be reconsidered. The board agreed with Superintendent Graham and voted 5 in favor of the mask mandate with none opposing.
