Nashville School Board

The Nashville School Board met Monday evening first to honor 2 alumni. Dr. Bobby Arrington, Valedictorian, of the class of 1960 as well as J. Hearn Latimer, Valedictorian of the class of 1959. Both left the Nashville School District and went on to have successful careers. Latimer for Nasa as well as the U.S. Airforce and Arrington with UAMS.

Due to their contribution to society and roots to the Nashville School District they were honored as Distinguished Scholars of Nashville High School. Mayor Billy Ray Jones was present at the ceremony and made a proclamation to those in attendance that henceforth November 15th would be known as Nashville School District Distinguished Scholar Day with Latimer and Arrington being the first honored.

After an impressive performance by the Scrapper Band the regular session of the Nashville School Board was underway.

Business for the meeting included discussion concerning the district’s Master Plan. The Master Plan is a comprehensive six year facility improvement plan that school districts are required by law to complete and keep updated. Superintendent, Doug Graham, made mention that items on the list aren’t binding but rather that attempting to make those facility improvements without being on it are quite difficult.

With that the board discussed what they would like to see on the plan which included talks of a new softball field, tennis courts, and a Fine Arts facility. The topic, however, was tabled until next month.

The board discussed, motioned, and passed unanimously approving the upcoming School Election day with the date set for May 24th of 2022. Graham, then spoke on the topic of December Bonus considerations which ultimately passed unanimously by the board allotting $146,000 for such or $500 per person.
