Nashville School Board approves calendar change for the 2024-2025 school year
On April 15th, the Nashville School Board met. The first order of business was the plan to update the Nashville Elementary and Primary school serving line. Graham reported the district will use surplus funds from the budget that cannot be rolled over into the next school year.
Superintendent Doug Graham stated these updates would be good for the district as the Elementary and Primary schools serving lines have not been updated in many years compared to the High school and Jr high. Superintendent Doug Graham updated the board on the plans regarding the construction of two tennis courts on school property. One bid was for a total of $224,890. That bid did not include groundwork, lighting, or seating.
The board approved the purchase of a new secondary language arts curriculum called Study Sync. This curriculum is HQIM, standing for High Quality Instructional Materials. The secondary literacy teachers agreed that the program would best fit the needs of the district. The cost of the program is $117,990.
The board also approved a change to the 2024-2025 school calendar. It was decided to move the start date from July 25th to July 29th. The two days removed will be made up on December 19th and 20th.
The board approved the re-employment of all current employees, and they accepted the resignation of the Jr high nurse, Shelby Ortiz. Following a student discipline hearing that was held in executive session, the board members upheld the recommendation of Graham to suspend a junior high student for 365 days.
