Nashville School Board Elects New Officers, Approves Personnel Changes at May Meeting
The Nashville School District Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, where members elected new officers, accepted several resignations, approved new hires, and discussed student transfers.
In a key leadership shift, Jerry Wilson was elected as the new Board President, with David Hilliard named Vice President, and Nick Britt assuming the role of Secretary.
The board accepted the resignations of three staff members: Douglas Messick, Junior High Band Director; Janet Jamison, Elementary Teacher; and Jamison Purtle, Visual Impaired Therapist.
In response, several new hires were approved:
- Valeria Cordero will take over as Junior High Band Director.
- Lori Chambers was hired as an Elementary Art Teacher.
- Michael Blackwood, Erica Hawthorne, Courtney Kessler, and Blaine Erwin were all hired as Special Education Aides.
Additionally, the board approved the following transfers: Jami Branch and Macey Evans will both move from teaching positions at the Primary School to classroom teaching roles at the Elementary School.
The district also reviewed school choice numbers. A total of 14 students transferred into the Nashville School District, while 5 transferred out. Superintendent Doug Graham noted that most of these students had previously been homeschooled.
There were also three board-to-board transfers: one student transferring into the Nashville District and two transferring out to the Mineral Springs School District.
