Nashville School Board Hears Success of Scrapper Supermarket

The Nashville School Board recognized the school food pantry program and Scrapper Supermarket, located at Nashville High School, at Monday’s board meeting. Over $14,000 in donations from local businesses and individuals has helped to provide several needy students with food. A recent $25,000 donation by Tyson Foods will be used to sustain the program and allow for expansion. NHS Counselor Crystal Evans and organizer Shawn Dale spoke at the meeting and thanked the community for supporting the food pantry program. Harvest Texarkana has also contributed to the success of the effort.

In other business, Superintendent Doug Graham spoke concerning recent technology upgrades. He stated that several new laptops are now being used at each campus. Over one hundred new chromebooks were damaged after being short circuited from being charged on the wrong type of charging cart. The company that provided the product has agreed to send new charging carts to the district and replace the damaged items.

The board approved the hires of Tony Horne and Ashley Sweeden as bus drivers, and also Robert Henderson on an interim one year contract as a teacher/coach.
