Nashville School District Hall of Honor Inductees
Saturday, the Nashville School District hosted the First Inaugural 2023 Hall of Fame Banquet.
The Hall of Honor Inductees were Dr. Bob Arrington who was a valedictorian of the NHS Class of 1960, Walter Leo Sonny Dixon who was the first African American to play for the Nashville Scrappers in 1967, J Hearn Latimer who was valedictorian of the NHS Class of 1959, Reeder Mccullough who played on the first Nashville Scrapper Football team coached by Lester Bradley, John Robert Schirmer long time US Advanced Placement Teacher of NHS, Editor and Publisher of the Nashville News Leader and the Murfreesboro Diamond, and Johnny Wilson who worked for the Nashville School District for 54 years.
Inductee Bob Arrington had advice for the present and future graduates of the Nashville School District.
Master of Ceremony Dr. Tom DeBlack talked about Walter Leo Sonny Dixon being the trailblazer for all upcoming African American athletes and how courageous he was.
Reeder McCullough had this to say about becoming a Scrapper.
John Robert Schirmer took a walk down memory lane and shared some Scrapper Memories.
