Native of Dierks will be honored by the Arkansas High School Association
Yesterday, KMTB and KNAS took a moment to speak with Archie Cothren, who is a Dierks native that will be honored as one of the best at their profession in the state of Arkansas.
In part one of our discussion, we took a walk down memory lane to discuss Cothren’s career background. Cothren stated that he started officiating in 1982, the year after he graduated from Ouachita Baptist University. Cothren said that he followed the footsteps of a person he was very close to his father Archie Cothren Sr.
From 1982 to 1987, Cothren officiated High School and did some college scrimmage games. Cothren stated that he was fortunate to get on an officiating crew that had the previous fall officiated the NAIA national championship game.
Cothren said that he was traveling 600 to 900 miles one way to the stadium and that he’s officiated 3 more state championship games, in 2022.
Tomorrow we will have part 2 of our discussion.
