New Hope man arrested for drug possession

On July 24th, 2023, Dierks Police Officer Kyler Turner conducted a traffic stop on Fourth St in Dierks. The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Jonathan Brent Mayes of New Hope. According to the affidavit Turner had prior knowledge that Mayes had an active warrant and Turner confirmed that it was still valid through the Howard County Sheriff’s Department. Mayes was reportedly taken into custody and transported to the Howard County Detention Center. It was also reported that during the book in process Howard County Jailer Jordan Neel found an orange capped syringe and a clear plastic baggie containing an off-white crystal-like powdered substance suspected to be methamphetamine. According to police records, Mayes had prior convictions of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in both Howard and Pike counties.
