New Hospital in Texarkana
Wadley Regional Medical Center announced Tuesday that they will soon begin on a new 123 bed hospital located at the corner of University Avenue and West Park Boulevard. President of Wadley Regional Medical Center Tom Gilbert is quoted saying, “A new hospital in the fastest-growing part of Texarkana will further solidify Wadley’s legacy of providing high-quality care to our neighbors.” This new facility is planned to open in May of 2024 costing around $227 million. It will include a medical office building as well as the capacity for a full range of hospital services including a 24/7 emergency room, orthopedics, cardiovascular area, neurosurgery, maternity care, and a number of outpatient services. It is expected to be 254,000 square feet with the ability to expand those 123 beds to 291 if need be. Construction will begin this coming September with the current Wadley’s location remaining fully operational during the build. Gilbert said this decision has been in the works for some time but with the COVID-19 pandemic the choice was made very clear as the community needs two hospitals more than ever. Wadley has proudly served the Texarkana area for almost 120 years and the addition of this state-of-the-art facility will ensure that tradition carries on for generations to come.
