New York Woman Finds 2.30-Carat Diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park

A dream two years in the making came true for Micherre Fox, 31, of Manhattan, New York, when she discovered a 2.30-carat white diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park on July 29, her final day at the park.

Fox, who recently completed graduate school, had made it her goal to find a diamond for her own engagement ring—believing hard work should be part of the foundation in any relationship. After researching places to search for diamonds, she traveled to Arkansas for a three-week visit to the park, digging nearly every day.

Her persistence paid off when she spotted the shiny gem on the ground in the West Drain section of the park. Overcome with emotion, Fox rushed to the Diamond Discovery Center, where staff confirmed the find as a 2.30-carat white diamond—the third-largest discovered at the park so far this year.

Fox named the gem the Fox-Ballou Diamond, honoring both her and her partner’s last names. She plans to have it set in her engagement ring.

As of now, 366 diamonds have been registered at the park in 2025, with 11 weighing more than one carat.
