NSD honors Hall of Fame Inductees at 2nd Annual Banquet
On Saturday, the Nashville School District held its second annual Hall of Fame Banquet.
The Hall of Honor inductees were Dr. James Davis Allen, Neva Byrd, Louis “Swampy” Graves, Danny Howard, and Amy Holcombe Ball Johnston.
The Hall of Fame welcomed Jarred Carlyle, Jim and Joe Dildy, Jasmin Ellis, Tony Fincher, John Floyd, Leslie Hendrix, Kera Hinds, Willie Hopson, George Jones, Shawn Scoggins, Alan Tollett, and Jay Turley.
Dr. Tom Deblack presided over the presentation of the Hall of Honor and Hall of Fame inductees.
The spotlight today is on the Hall of Fame inductees.
Carlyle, a 2005 Nashville High School graduate, lettered in both golf and tennis and was part of the 2005 Triple A State Golf Championship Team.
Carlyle shared his joy and honor at being inducted into the Nashville Scrapper Hall of Fame.
Jim Dildy was a Nashville Scrapper in the 1920s, later earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama. He played on the 1933 Alabama Team, winning the school’s first Championship. His brother Joe Dildy also played for the Nashville Scrappers in the late 1920s and was a center for the University of Alabama in 1933 and 1934. Joe served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army during World War II.
Ellis was part of the 2007, 2008, and 2009 state track championship teams in Nashville. She continued to run track at UCA, winning the college heptathlon in 2013 and recording the top three outdoor heptathlon scores in UCA history from 2011 to 2013.
Ellis expressed her gratitude for being chosen as part of Nashville’s history.
Fincher, who graduated from Nashville High School in 1998, was on the 1996 undefeated state championship football team. He was all-conference in baseball in 1996 and was named the rotary’s most valuable player and permanent team captain in football in 1997.
Fincher expressed gratitude for the numerous opportunities provided for success, not just on the field but also academically and in subsequent life stages. He acknowledged the many individuals who supported him throughout his journey.
Floyd, the salutatorian of the 1933 NHS graduating class, served as the team captain in his senior year and led them to a district championship.
Hendrix, an NHS alumnus of 1997, achieved all-state honors in football and track during the 1996 and 1997 school years. He set a school record with 214 tackles in a single season in 1996. Additionally, Hendrix was a member of the Honor Society and the Nashville High School Student Council.
