NSD honors Hall of Fame Inductees part 2
On Saturday, the Nashville School District held its second annual Hall of Fame Banquet.
The Hall of Honor inductees were Dr. James Davis Allen, Neva Byrd, Louis “Swampy” Graves, Danny Howard, and Amy Holcombe Ball Johnston. The Hall of Fame welcomed Jarred Carlyle, Jim and Joe Dildy, Jasmin Ellis, Tony Fincher, John Floyd, Leslie Hendrix, Kera Hinds, Willie Hopson, George Jones, Shawn Scoggins, Alan Tollett, and Jay Turley.
Dr. Tom Deblack presided over the presentation of the Hall of Honor and Hall of Fame inductees.
Today we will conclude by highlighting the remaining Hall of Fame inductees.
Hinds was an all-district softball player from 2009 to 2012. Member of the state championship softball team in 2010 and 2012. Hinds was also most valuable player of the state championship game in 2012 and she was also Texarkana Gazette player of the year.
Hopson who graduated in 2003 from NHS holds a record for the most rushing yards of the season, most rushing yards in a career, most attempts in a season, and the most attempts in a career. He was named all-state in 2001 and in 2002.
Hopson stated that some of the best times in his life were under the lights on the Hill on Friday Nights.
Jones was all district in football, basketball, and baseball in 1962 and 1963. Jones also played in the all-star basketball game in 1963. He was three-time lettermen in baseball, basketball, and golf in Arkansas State Teachers and he was inducted in the UCA Hall of Fame in 2012.
Scoggins was a member of the 3-peat state championship football team in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He was all conference and all state in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He holds five Scrapper football records including most rushing attempts in a game, most points scored in Nashville football history, most rushing touchdowns in a career, and most yards per carry in a career.
Tollett was a 1963 graduate at NHS, four sport lettermen, three-year starter as fullback, Co-captain, all district, and all state in 1962.
Turley was a 1990 graduate at NHS. He was all district in football in 1988 and 1989, all district in baseball in 1989 and 1990. Texarkana Gazette football player of the year in 1989. He became Ouachita Player of the year in 1992 and 1993.
Turley stated that being a Nashville Scrapper was something that he always dreamed of.
