NSD Superintendent presents upcoming projects at board meeting

Monday night during the regular meeting of the Nashville School Board, Superintendent Doug Graham updated the board on several projects that are underway in the district. He reported the carpet in the Nashville High School is being replaced this summer, the dryvit around the top of the Nashville Elementary School will be replaced, hallways are being painted in the Nashville Primary, carpet is being replaced in four classrooms and the tile at the dome will be replaced.

Board members also approved the construction of two tennis courts along with two five-row 15 foot bleachers that will seat a total of 100 people. Graham said the tennis court project will cost $340,695.

Board members approved the student activity insurance bid from the Dwight Jones Agency and the bids from the Arkansas School Board Association for the district’s property and vehicle insurance.

Graham said the bid for the property insurance premium went down but there was a slight increase in the vehicle insurance premium.

Board members were informed about an open gate weapon detection system. Graham said he wasn’t a fan of the idea, until the company demonstrated their product. Graham said he will invite a company representative to next months meeting.

Board members voted to purchase school supplies for all K through 6 students and they voted to hire Zack Hopkins as the junior high band director and Haley Davis as a primary school teacher.
