Okolona Man Arrested on Drug, Weapon Charges After Traffic Stop in Delight

A 34-year-old man from Okolona was arrested following a traffic stop in Delight on the evening of March 15, 2026.
According to the affidavit, Deputy Will Harberson observed a gold Chevrolet Malibu traveling on East Antioch Street around 7:45 p.m. with a malfunctioning headlight. After initiating a traffic stop, the driver was identified as Shane McElroy.
While speaking with McElroy, Deputy Harberson reported detecting a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. McElroy was asked to exit the vehicle so a search could be conducted.
Deputy Brandon Copeland arrived on the scene to assist. During the stop, deputies say McElroy attempted to conceal a container by throwing it underneath the vehicle. The container was recovered and found to contain three plastic baggies with a white crystal-like substance.
Authorities also reported that McElroy later admitted he attempted to hide the container because he knew it was inside the vehicle and did not want to be arrested.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies located marijuana cigarettes and a .22 caliber Heritage Rough Rider pistol under the driver’s seat. Additional containers holding white powder and crystal-like substances were also found.
The items were seized as evidence, and McElroy was transported to the Pike County Detention Center for booking.
He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
