Pike County Quorum Court 7/20

Pike County Quorum Court met Monday night discussing a number of items. Judge Mack called the meeting to order and announced that Pike County has been chosen to receive a grant in the amount of $2.5 million for the installation of broadband internet to all Pike County residents, including rural areas. This grant has been awarded to contractor South Central Connect and installation has already begun. Mack also told the Quorum that the loan for the Volvo dump truck had been paid off and that the asphalt paving project on Vaughn Road in Glenwood was completed but took over $200,000 leaving the fund short for the remainder of the year. Upon discussion council members approved the appropriation of $125,000 to the road budget with a vote consisting of 8 for and none against. Sheriff Hill took the floor announcing the award of a grant in the amount of $83,000 to be used to purchase and install 10 in-car computers for the patrol units which would allow deputies to spend more time in their units doing reports rather than in the office. This system is similar to what state police use. Hill said Pike County would be responsible for paying 100% of the cost up front but would be reimbursed 90% of the cost after proof of purchase. Clerk Reid then spoke on behalf of the elected officials asking for the quorum court to approve a one-time salary adjustment to full-time employees and elected officials who worked diligently throughout the height of the pandemic. This amount is $2,000 which comes from the “Cares Act” grant money.
