Pike County Quorum Court Addresses Comp Time Policy, Sheriff’s Credit Limit and Future Projects

The Pike County Quorum Court met last week for their regular monthly meeting following a meeting of the Pike County Handbook Committee.

During the committee meeting, county officials and employees from the Road and Landfill departments discussed concerns over the required use of earned compensatory time on scheduled holidays. Committee members agreed to exclude scheduled holidays from the mandatory use of comp time before holiday leave. Pike County Clerk Randee Edwards said an ordinance reflecting the change will be presented at the August Quorum Court meeting.

During the regular meeting, justices unanimously approved an appropriation ordinance.

The court also approved Resolution 2026-3, increasing the credit limit on the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Visa credit card from $3,000 to $10,000 after Justice Paul Baker amended the original proposal. The measure passed 7-1, with Justice Randy Lamb casting the lone dissenting vote.

Justices also reviewed the 2025 Hot Check Fee Report from Prosecuting Attorney Jana Bradford, which showed a beginning balance of $20,329.40 and an ending balance of $15,422.32.

In other business, the court voiced support for a proposal from Mark Wiley to build two pickleball courts at the city park, with the county’s portion of the project limited to demolition of an existing building and site preparation.

Assessor Staci Stewart also introduced a proposal from CivicPlus for a new county website. While no funding was requested, Stewart said she plans to provide a demonstration at the next meeting, and justices asked that an additional quote be obtained before moving forward.
