Pike County Quorum Court April Meeting

Monday night, the Pike County Quorum Court held their regular monthly meeting.

According to the Treasurer Loletia Rather’s report for the month of March, County General had a beginning balance of $1,455,089.49 and an ending balance of $1,289,370.17. County Road had a beginning balance of $841,000.70 and an ending balance of $834,918.47. Landfill had a beginning balance of $1,110,293.74 and an ending balance of $1,139,228.97.

Pike County Sheriff Travis Hill informed JPs that the current operating system for in-car cameras and body cameras, formally known as watchguard, had been bought out by Motorola and their system is now obsolete. Hill stated most systems are moving toward cloud-based storage options and that he obtained a quote from Axon. The quote he presented was for 15 in car cameras and 20 body cameras for around $40,000 per year for a 5-year agreement. This price included the monthly cloud service fee. Hill added that he was searching for other options and that Karen Barlow of Barlow Consulting was looking for a grant to help with cost.

In conclusion, Sheriff Hill talked about the hardship of burning holiday time earned within his departments. Hill said the lack of part time employees to cover leave time was causing his departments to run into large amounts of leave time that was very difficult to get rid of. It was suggested that the department hire another full-time deputy and to use some of the left-over grant funds to help out with the cost.

After further discussion JPs approved a motion to use leftover grant funds to hire another full-time deputy at the cost of approximately $44,000 dollars.
