Pike County Quorum Court Meeting Highlights Financial Updates and Community Projects

The Pike County Quorum Court convened on Monday night, October 21st, at the Pike County Courthouse, with Judge Eddie Howard calling the meeting to order.

During roll call, the clerk confirmed the presence of Justices Robbie Crocker, Seth Kirkham, Jerry Fendley, Kip Holbrook, Richard Mohlenhoff, Johnny Plyler, and Paul Baker, while Justices John Terrell and Leotis Snowden were absent.

Treasurer Loletia Rather presented the financial report for September, detailing the county’s financial standing. The County General fund reported a beginning balance of $1,362,108.93 and an ending balance of $1,371,059.35. The County Road fund started at $1,012,254.45 and ended at $1,005,437.22, while the Landfill fund had a beginning balance of $1,003,608.47 and concluded with $1,054,666.13. Justice Kirkham made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report, which Justice Baker seconded. This motion also passed with a unanimous 7-0 vote.

Clerk Edwards read the Appropriation Ordinance, which amends the 2024 budget. Justice Baker moved to adopt the ordinance, with Justice Plyler seconding the motion. The ordinance passed with a 7-0 vote.

The Budget Committee discussed scheduling their first meeting, deciding on November 1 at 1:00 p.m., while the Handbook Committee opted to delay setting a meeting date.

In other business, Justice of the Peace Crocker reported a conversation with Mark Wiley regarding the local tennis program. Wiley expressed a desire to resurface the tennis courts and indicated he is willing to fund the project personally if the county could contribute. Judge Howard stated he would contact Mrs. Wilcher from South Pike County Schools, as they utilize the tennis courts. Justice Crocker also mentioned Wiley’s interest in adding pickleball courts and exploring grant options for that initiative.
