Pike County Sheriff’s office accepting donations for purchase of K9 unit

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office is seeking to obtain a K9 unit for the Sheriffs Office. Sheriff Travis Hill said there are many benefits to the department for having a dog, including aiding in the search for missing people, apprehending fleeing suspects, and locating illegal narcotics.  Along with the benefits, comes a hefty price tag, according to the sheriff.  A deputy will be trained in handling the dog and a police vehicle will need to be equipped with the latest technology to keep the K9 safe while in the car.

Pike County residents who would like to make a donation for the department to obtain a K9 unit, can contact the sheriff’s office at 285-3301.  Sheriff Hill says all donations given will strictly go to the K9 fund.
