Pike County still waiting on new trash truck

Pike County still does not have ownership of a new trash truck that was ordered one year ago this month. County Judge Dewight Mack told the quorum court at Monday’s meeting that the truck did not get delivered to the bed manufacture until November and is still awaiting that complete installation. The judge has been told the truck should be delivered to the county sometime in April. In the meantime, the judge says he’s found a bigger truck that’s ready to roll off the lot for a price of more than $215,000 dollars. The approved bid on the smaller trash truck last year was $150,000 dollars. Quorum court members told the judge to see about trading in one of the county’s older trucks, or possibly selling it outright, to make the up the difference.
Pike County Extension Agent Terrell Davis was at Monday’s meeting to update j.p.’s on the move into a new extension office. Davis said the office’s Zoom room is now operational for the public. Interviews have also been conducted on the open extension agent’s position. The position has been offered to a candidate, with an expected start date of June 1st.
Davis also reported on the county’s feral hog trap. He said it is receiving regular usage by county residents. Combined with another hog trap, Davis reported about 600 of the feral hogs have been trapped in the Antoine area since last August.
Judge Mack also reported on the hiring of Robert Williams as the county’s new Veterans Services Officer.
