Planning and Zoning Commission Rejects Rezoning Request Near Toland Heights

The Nashville Planning and Zoning Commission met last week to consider a request to rezone property behind the Toland Heights neighborhood from R-1 to R-2.
Mayor Larry Dunaway explained that R-1 zoning allows only single-family homes, while R-2 zoning permits the construction of duplexes. He told the Developing Howard County board that a developer recently purchased the land and proposed building 52 duplex units to help address the community’s housing needs.
Residents of Toland Heights attended the meeting and urged the commission not to approve the zoning change.
After discussion, the commission voted against recommending the rezoning request.
The issue will now move to the Nashville City Council for consideration. Council members are scheduled to review the matter during their regular meeting on today at 12 p.m. in the council chambers at Nashville City Hall.
