Prescott Man Arrested on Drug Charges After Delight Traffic Stop

A 34-year-old Prescott man is facing two felony charges following a traffic stop late last month in Delight.

According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Troy Thomas was on routine patrol shortly before 10 p.m. July 30 when he observed a gray Pontiac G6 traveling eastbound near the intersection of Highway 19 South and Highway 26 East.

Thomas checked the vehicle’s registration and found that liability insurance could not be confirmed. He also observed that the vehicle’s registration lamp was not working, providing probable cause for a traffic stop.

The vehicle was stopped near Highway 19 South and Webb Street. Thomas identified the driver as Jeremy Ward and conducted a records check, which showed Ward had an active search waiver on file.

According to the report, Thomas conducted a search of Ward and the vehicle pursuant to the terms of that waiver.

During the search, deputies located a yellow backpack on the front passenger seat. Inside the backpack was a Buc-ee’s metal tin containing a clear plastic bag with a white powdery substance, along with a glass smoking pipe, a straw and several Q-tips.

A presumptive field test on the white powder returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

Ward was arrested and transported to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, where he was turned over to detention staff for booking without incident.

Ward is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, also a Class D felony.
