Proposal Voting Results From Governing Body Meeting

Five new proposals passed at the annual Arkansas Activities Association governing body meetings at the Statehouse Convention Center on Tuesday afternoon.

The lone proposal to be voted against was Proposal #1, which proposed the competitive equity factor only be applied to football while also adding non-public schools back into the classification numbers. That proposal failed with 104 votes against and 42 votes for and was decided by high school voting representatives only.

Proposal #2, which would change the number of games played by high school volleyball, basketball and soccer teams passed by a margin of 137-9. In order for a proposal to pass, it must receive at least a two thirds majority. Starting this fall, volleyball teams can play 30 regular season matches (including tournaments).

For non-football playing basketball schools, those teams can now play 36 regular season games while football playing basketball schools can play 30 regular season games. The new rule removes the regular season tournament element from the number of games equation.
