Re-cycle your live Christmas tree
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is urging residents who have a live Christmas tree this year to take the tree to a nearby lake when you’re finished with it so the tree can be used for fish habitat. In our region, the live tree drop off sites on Millwood Lake include Cottoneshed, White Cliffs, and the Millwood State Park ramp on the point.
The drop off location at Dierks Lake is the Jefferson Ridge South Recreation Area. At Lake Greeson, live Christmas trees may be left at the New Cowhide Cove and Self Creek Recreation areas, and at Gillham or De Queen lakes, the drop off site is any U.S. Army Corps of Engineers boat ramp.
Trees should have all decorations removed before leaving them at one of the lakes. Fishermen are then invited to take one of the donated trees and submerge it at their favorite fishing site for habitat.
