Representatives of Weyerhaeuser speaks at Nashville Rotary meeting
Walt Smith and Katie Hooker were the guest speakers at this week’s Nashville Rotary Club meeting. Smith and Hooker work for the Weyerhaeuser company. Smith is the regional manager of the Southwest Arkansas/Southeast Oklahoma timberlands. Hooker is the Corporate Giving Manager.
Smith reported Weyerhaeuser manages 1 million acres of timber land in Arkansas and Oklahoma with a half a million acres in the Cossatot Timberlands in Arkansas and a half million acres in the Kiamichi Timberlands in Oklahoma. Kya-mish’ Smith said Weyerhaeuser harvests about 20,000 acres a year of profitable timber. He said that means the trees are 14 to 16 inches in diameter at about four and a half feet off the ground. He said they will replant those trees within the same year to ensure a sustainable forest for the future.
Smith said Weyerhaeuser is a farmer of imperfect fields.
Hooker said every Weyerhaeuser facility has a local community that reviews grant applications. She said they focus on the following seven areas.
Smith said Weyerhaeuser believes in trees today and trees for tomorrow
