Rotary Club Hears from ArDOT’s Jeremy Thomas on District 3 Projects and Winter Weather Preparedness
This week’s Rotary Club speaker was Jeremy Thomas who is the District Construction Engineer for District 3 in Hope. He was joined by Jim Bob Lamb who is the Howard County Maintenance supervisor and the District 3 Maintenance Superintendent Joe Daniels.
Thomas started by mentioning several current projects in the district as well as some upcoming projects in 2026.
Thomas stated ARDot changed their philosophy concerning ice/snow in 2013. He said the state developed a statewide plan and every district developed a district plan, determining how to pre-treat highways ahead of inclement weather conditions.
Thomas explained what ARDot uses to pre-treat the highways and how much they use per lane mile.
Thomas said county supervisors update IdriveArkansas.com about every 2 to 3 hours.
Thomas said after a winter weather event, each district will then repair and clean the equipment, restock their supplies and start filling potholes.
