Rotary Club – Julio Fuentes
Rotary Club met Wednesday afternoon with Master Gardener, Julio Fuentes, presenting. Fuentes informed Rotarians of the difficulties the Howard County Farmer’s Market has faced this past year but reported he is optimistic about the future and opportunities ahead for the program. Farmers reported this year a near complete loss of peaches, blueberries, and figs due to the freeze earlier this year. With only about 2 weeks worth of crops surviving. In abundance thanks to new participants in this years program were tomatoes, squash, cucumber, and purple hull peas. Fuentes announced that the Farmer’s Market would be hosting several workshop classes upcoming including How to properly save and store seed in the off season, building sq. foot beds, and the composting process.
