Scrapper Baseball

Tuesday morning, Nashville baseball coach Zac Stewart recapped the team’s recent road trip, which featured three games in Hot Springs against Fort Smith Southside, Brookland, and Lake Hamilton, along with a matchup in Little Rock against Dale, Oklahoma.

Stewart said he values playing on a variety of surfaces — from turf to natural grass and dirt — noting that each environment helps prepare his team for future competition.

The Scrappers finished the trip 0-4, but there were some encouraging performances. Against Southside, Nashville outhit the Mavericks 5-2 and received four strong innings on the mound from Karson Chambers. Chambers allowed just two hits and three runs while striking out seven and walking one.

Nashville struggled offensively against Brookland, one of the top 4A teams in Arkansas, managing only two hits. Still, Jaydon Goodson turned in a solid effort, pitching five innings while allowing seven hits but no earned runs and striking out eight.

In the game against Dale, Oklahoma, the Scrappers again outhit their opponent 8-5 but were unable to string together enough offense, scoring just one run.

Defensively, errors proved costly throughout the trip. Nashville committed more than 10 errors, something Stewart pointed to as a key issue. He added that he is less concerned with the losses themselves and more focused on how the team performed.

The Scrappers were back in action Monday night, traveling to Magnolia for a 7-4A conference matchup. They are scheduled to face the Panthers again Thursday at Wilson Park, with first pitch set for 5 p.m., weather permitting. Stewart noted that Magnolia is coming off a championship run at the Gulf Shores tournament this past weekend.

Looking ahead, Nashville will host De Queen on April 7 and travel there again on April 10 in conference play. The Scrappers will also face Lakeside on April 9 in non-conference action.
