Scrapperettes battle back against #1 team in state; come up a little short

The defending 4A state champions, the Nashville Scrapperettes opened their 2022-2023 season by participating in the Dandra Thomas Invitational Tournament in Conway on the campus of Conway High School this past weekend.

Nashville advanced to the finals after opening the tournament Thursday night with a 57 to 40 victory over the Jonesboro Hurricanes who finished last season as the 6A state runners-up.

Friday night, the Scrapperettes cruised to 79-39 win over Little Rock Christian to advance to the tournament finals where they faced off with the host team, the Conway High School Lady Wampus Cats.

In the championship game, the Scrapperettes stayed even with the Lady Wampus Cats in the first period at 17, but in the second period, Conway went on a 6-0 run in the first three minutes of the period and followed that up with a 7-0 run. The Lady Wampus Cats led the Scrapperettes 37-25 at the half.

The Scrapperettes trailed the number one team in the state by 18 in the second-half, but fought back and got within nine, but came up short and fell to the Lady Wampus Cats by the final score of 78-67.

The Scrapperettes are 2-1 to start the season and will host Gurdon Tuesday, November 15 at Scrapper Arena. The junior Scrapperettes will tip-off at 5 pm followed by the defending 4A state champions.
