Scrappers Dominate in Home Opener, Roll Past Hope 47-20

The hometown crowd at Scrapper Stadium had plenty to cheer about Friday night as the Nashville Scrappers stormed past the Hope Bobcats with a commanding 47-20 victory in their first home game of the season.

From the opening whistle, the Scrappers came out firing on all cylinders. Running back Tucker Dixon wasted no time putting Nashville on the board with an early touchdown, followed by a successful extra point to give the Scrappers a quick 7-0 lead.

Quarterback Jacoby Hopson kept the momentum rolling with two electrifying rushing touchdowns.

One extra point was good, and the other was no good, extending the lead to 20-0 and sending a clear message that Nashville came to play.

Jaylon Staggers brought the home crowd to its feet in the second quarter with a thrilling scoop-and-score fumble recovery for a touchdown.

With the extra point good, the Scrappers extended their lead to 27-0. Nashville struck again shortly after, making it 33-0, but the two-point conversion attempt was no good. Tucker Dixon added one more touchdown before halftime, and with a successful PAT, the Scrappers headed into the locker room with a commanding 40-0 lead.

Hope managed to break the shutout in the third quarter, but Gauge Applegate answered right back with a hard-fought touchdown of his own.

With the extra point, Nashville extended their lead to 47-6.

The Bobcats found the end zone twice in the final quarter, but by then, the outcome was never in doubt. Nashville’s explosive first-half performance had already sealed the win, giving Scrapper Nation plenty to celebrate under the Friday night lights.

After the game, Superintendent Doug Graham presented the game ball to Coach Brad Chesshir.

With the win, the Scrappers improve to 1-1 on the season and carry strong momentum into next week’s matchup on the road against the Dardanelle Sand Lizards. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
