Second Special Youth Deer Hunt Set for January 3–4 Across Arkansas

The second of Arkansas’ two Special Youth Modern Gun Deer Hunts is set to begin this weekend, giving young hunters another opportunity to participate in the state’s deer season.

The special youth hunt will be held January 3–4 and will be open in all Arkansas hunting zones. The first youth modern gun hunt took place earlier this season in early November.

Officials with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission remind participants that all youth hunters must have a free customer ID number, which can be obtained by visiting agfc.com.

Only hunters six to 15 years old are eligible to harvest deer during the special youth hunt. Youth hunters who have not completed a hunter education course must be under the direct supervision of an adult at least 21 years old. Mentors are not allowed to hunt any species during the youth hunt.

All zone bag limits remain in effect, and the use of dogs is prohibited during the youth hunt.

Bowhunters are also allowed to hunt during the youth season but are required to wear hunter orange or chartreuse. Hunters are encouraged to check local regulations, as some Wildlife Management Areas and National Wildlife Refuges require permits for youth hunts or may be closed during the youth season.

Arkansas’ deer season will officially conclude with the end of the archery season on February 28.
