The Nashville Board of Education voted 4 to 1 to hire Shawn Jackson of Hayti, Missouri as the next head football coach of the Nashville Scrappers during a special called school board meeting Friday afternoon.
A committee consisting of Superintendent Doug Graham, Assistant Superintendent Tate Gordan, Athletic Director James Bunch Nichols and high school principal Ashley Riggs, met will Jackson and unanimously voted to recommend him for the position of head football coach and assistant athletic director.
Graham said the committee received resumes from nine applicants and the committee reached out to eight other prospects who did not submit resumes in order to protect their current jobs.
Graham told the board and those in attendance that the committee was sold on Jackson because of his love for kids and his knowledge in building, maintaining and sustaining a program.
Jackson talked about his coaching journey and how Nashville is a destination opportunity for him and his family.
Graham said he felt Jackson was the man to convey the idea of what it means to be a Scrapper and Jackson said that it begins in kindergarten.
Jackson also stated his offense and defense would be dictated by the players and what they do the best.
Jackson and his wife, Abbie have three sons. Their oldest son, Cole, teaches and coaches in Hayti. Kellon is a junior and Conner is a freshman.
