South Pike County School Board Approves Personnel, Salary Revisions During June Meeting

The South Pike County School Board met for their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening and approved several personnel and administrative items.

Board members unanimously approved the hiring of Aaron Carter as assistant football and baseball coach for the 2026-27 school year. The motion was made by Barbie Baxter and seconded by Cory Ballard, passing 4-0.

The board also approved revisions to the district’s salary schedule as presented. The motion was made by Cory Ballard and seconded by Barbie Baxter and passed unanimously.

In other personnel-related business, the board approved extra pay for Steve Martin for officiating and assignor duties, not to exceed $2,000 for the 2026-27 school year. The motion, made by Barbie Baxter and seconded by Cory Ballard, passed by a 4-0 vote.

Board members also discussed the possible disposal of district-owned property located in the Bowen Community and within the former Brocktown School District. The board agreed to obtain market values for each parcel before moving forward with plans to offer the properties for sale.

During the superintendent’s report, Tanya Wilcher informed the board that new carpet has been installed in all office complexes and libraries throughout the district.

Wilcher also announced that regular school board meetings for the upcoming school year will be held on the third Tuesday of each month. Any changes to the schedule will be posted on the district’s website.
